Convert an order quantity into full cartons, partial cartons, and total packing units using the confirmed units-per-carton rule. The result helps a buyer reconcile purchase quantities with supplier packing data before requesting weights, dimensions, and shipping rates.
A realistic way to use it
An order for 2,350 pieces packed 48 pieces per carton needs 48 full cartons plus one partial carton containing 46 pieces, for 49 cartons in total. Record whether the factory will ship that partial carton, adjust the order to a full-carton multiple, or repack the balance.
Checks that prevent a bad result
Do not round carton quantity down, confuse inner-box quantity with master-carton quantity, or assume every SKU uses the same pack count. Check whether samples, spare parts, display boxes, or mixed assortments create additional cartons.
When this tool is not enough
The carton count alone cannot establish freight volume or chargeable weight. Final outer dimensions, gross weight, palletization, mixed-SKU packing, and carrier rules are still required.
Frequently asked questions
Should a partial carton be counted?
Yes. Any physical partial carton occupies handling space and must appear in the packing plan unless the order quantity is adjusted.
Can different SKUs share a carton?
They can, but the packing list should identify the mixed carton and preserve accurate unit totals by SKU.
What should I request after calculating cartons?
Ask for the final outer dimensions, net and gross weight, carton marks, and packing configuration for every carton type.
