Air Freight Chargeable Weight Calculator
Calculate air freight chargeable weight from carton dimensions, carton count, actual weight, and a carrier divisor such as 6000 or 5000.
Use this result
Estimate the rating weight used for airport-to-airport or forwarder-arranged air cargo. Enter the packed dimensions and number of pieces, calculate dimensional weight using the factor shown in the quote, and compare the result with the shipment actual gross weight.
Worked example
Ten cartons measuring 60 x 50 x 40 cm have 1.2 cubic meters in total. With a common air-freight conversion of 167 kg per cubic meter, dimensional weight is about 200.4 kg. If the scale weight is 176 kg, the initial chargeable-weight estimate is about 200.4 kg before carrier rounding and minimums.
Check before using the result
Do not use product dimensions, omit the piece count, mix centimeters and meters, or reuse an express-courier divisor without checking the forwarder quote. Confirm whether dimensions and weight are per piece or shipment totals.
What this tool does not establish
Airline rounding, pivot weight, minimum charges, security screening, dangerous-goods rules, density agreements, route capacity, and terminal fees are outside a simple dimensional calculation.
Questions about this task
What is air freight chargeable weight?
It is commonly the greater of actual gross weight and dimensional weight, subject to the airline or forwarder tariff and rounding rules.
Is 167 kg per CBM universal?
No. It is a common conversion, but the applicable factor must come from the current quote or service terms.
Should pallets be included?
Yes. Use final packed dimensions and gross weight when cargo will move on pallets.
