IP & time help · Mr Kcal Store
A connection can have both a public IPv4 address and a public IPv6 address. Two websites can therefore report different addresses without either being wrong: they may have received requests over different IP versions.
Check my IPv4 and IPv6 separately
Run a comparison you can interpret
- Open the IP tool and use Check my IPv4. Copy the result with its timestamp.
- Use Check my IPv6 from the same connection. An unavailable result is possible and should be recorded as unavailable, not replaced with the earlier IPv4 result.
- When comparing another website, compare its IPv4 result with your IPv4 result, or its IPv6 result with your IPv6 result.
- To compare location databases, paste exactly the same address into both tools. Automatic detection can otherwise introduce a second difference.
What automatic detection means here
“Use my IP” first contacts a detection endpoint that accepts IPv4 or IPv6. It reports the address used for that request. If that endpoint fails, the tool tries an IPv4 endpoint. A single automatic result does not prove which protocols are available on every application or destination.
The separate IPv4 and IPv6 buttons use protocol-specific detection endpoints. They are useful for a focused check; they do not capture every address assigned to your device or test all routes.
How to read an unavailable IPv6 result
| Result | What you can conclude |
|---|---|
| IPv4 succeeds; IPv6 is unavailable | The IPv6 detection request did not complete. IPv6 may be unavailable on this path, or the endpoint may be blocked. |
| Both succeed with different addresses | Each protocol reached its detection endpoint with the displayed address. |
| The same address gives different cities in different databases | Location precision is uncertain; investigate the database rather than assuming a routing fault. |
| Both detection requests fail | Try a known public address manually to separate auto-detection failure from geolocation failure. |
Does seeing IPv6 mean my VPN is leaking?
That conclusion needs more evidence. Compare the address and organization with what your VPN or network provider says should be used, and follow its diagnostic process. This page does not test DNS, WebRTC, split routing or applications outside the browser.
Do not disable a protocol simply because two address strings differ. First establish the expected network behavior and which request produced each observation.
Can IPv6 be looked up manually?
Yes. Paste a public IPv6 address into the existing search field. The same approximate-location limits apply. A compressed IPv6 address contains colons; an IPv4 address normally appears as four decimal numbers separated by dots.
Reference and next check
ipify documents its IPv4-only, IPv6-only and dual-protocol endpoints. Mr Kcal Store uses these endpoints for detection and its same-origin lookup route for network details. See how to investigate an unexpected city.
